Bandslam!

I saw Bandslam the other day, and I was really glad to see all of the awesome music they put in it. I’ve been meaning to check out The Velvet Underground, and when they talked about the band in the movie, it reminded me to check them out. More on that band later. I really liked the song that their band played at Bandslam. The song is "Everything I Own," originally written and performed by David Gates and his band, Bread. I’d never heard it before, and now I’m obsessed with it! It’s so catchy! I was also excited to see “Young Folks,” a great song by the indie band Peter, Bjorn & John (see above video). I really love this song. It’s so light-hearted, memorable, and perfect to whistle to.

Here's the video for "Carmensita" by Devendra Banhart. I am in love with this video. Two summers ago I went on a vacation to India, and there were television programs about various Indian gods that were a lot like this music video. Make sure to read the subtitles, they're really funny. And in case you were wondering, yes, that is Natalie Portman in the video. At the time of the video, she and Devendra Banhart were a couple. I'm not sure if they're still together. Watch the video!

LSTN Playlists from Urban Outfitters

I am in love with the free LSTN playlists! Akin to our Shared Pandora account, these playlists are doing their best to spread awareness of new artists from all genres. One of my favorite new songs (from LSTN playlist #6) is "Surprise Hotel" by Fool's Gold. I've always liked songs that are longer than four minutes. I also love the fact that you can't really understand what he's saying, and you just have to sit back and listen. I'll be posting more LSTN updates soon. So what are you waiting for? Urban Outfitters is giving away free music! LSTN #1, LSTN #2, LSTN #3, LSTN #4, and LSTN #6 are ready to download for free right now! (You can stream the LSTN #5 playlist – but the downloads have expired.) (**Note: LSTN's #1-4 will download as MP3's in zipped file folders. LSTN #6 can be downloaded through iTunes.)
